Vince Loglisci was full of life. A resident of Havertown, Pa., he worked as a window clerk for the Wynnewood Post office for over 35 years, drawing in customers with his outgoing personality and engaging smile. Being an avid Philadelphia sports fan meant that Vince religiously followed the Phillies and the Eagles--but his true passion was golf.It was during his annual golf outing with his friends to Myrtle Beach, S.C. in November 2005 that Vince noticed something was not right. He was experiencing some bleeding. When he returned home, he quickly made an appointment wth his family doctor and scheduled a colononscopy for early January.
The results of the colonoscopy confirmed he had rectal cancer. Additional tests also indicated that he had three to four tiny spots on his liver. The news was devastating for his family and friends. Throughout his life, Vince had always been in good health. In fact, five years prior, he had successfully beat prostrate cancer.
Throughout the next one and half years, Dee his wife, was a vital support to him as he underwent treatment. In June, 2006 Vince was operated on to remove the tumor and subsequently endured two difficult rounds of chemotherapy. In May 2007, he was rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe abdominal pain. At the hospital, Vince was treated for several related medical issues. Though Dee and Vince's family never gave up hope, it was evident that he was losing the battle. Sadly, the disease had taken its toll and Vince passed away in the hospital exactly a month later on June 13, 2007.
Following Vince's death, Dee needed to put purpose to her grief. She had witnessed firsthand what this dIsease can do physicaly and emotionally to an individual, particularly in an advanced stage.
"I wanted to do something that would benefit others who were also suffering from this disease. "It made perfect sense to combine Vince's love of golf with an event that would make a difference to others". On June 23, 2008, Dee, along with a committee comprised of family and friends, held the 1st Annual Vince Loglisci Memorial Golf Outing at the Edgmont Coutry Club, Edgmont, PA. The outing supports the Colon and Rectal Cancer Program at Bryn Mawr Hospital and to date has raised over $40,000 for the program in Vince's memory.
"Vince and I were married over 38 years and he had brought so much love and happiness to my life during our years together." "Our support through the golf outing of the Colon and Rectal Cancer Program at Bryn Mawr Hospital and the benefits to others derived from it, is my gift to Vince in his memory".
